I understand the rules are the rules. But consider shrimp, they eat carrion, or dead rotting fish. Crabs too. Someone drowns in saltwater, free crabs. Oysters and clams, they’re the filters of the water, where call them biological sewer treatment.
Like not eating birds of prey.
Where it seems the clean foods are cleaner creatures with a milder spirit. Gentle.
Which we are supposed to be! Which I’ve seen it said and I’ve heard a world class athlete reference eating certain foods for their spiritual nature. As the athlete he would eat meat before a fight for that killer nature! Quite a contrast to lamb and dove.
I am not answering for Jews or Judaism but just mentioning correlations as well as believes held by some ancient and spiritual folks.
Again, it might be something kept secret to Jews as far as I know. Like martial arts, they’ve been kept from westerners minus a few!
Which if a rabbi would chime in, it’d be good, but as yet, I’ve always heard the rules are the rules. Répondre

But pigs have a mild nature and are actually cleaner than chickens (pigs only like clean mud and don't poop where they rest). Pigs also have split hooves. The only thing that disqualifies them is that they do not chew their cud. But chickens don't do that either. So, I understand what the rule is, but I don't understand why Deuteronomy singles out pigs. There doesn't seem to be a sufficient argument against eating them other than "that's what is in Deuteronomy." Répondre

pigs also don't have sweat glands (they absorb toxins into their flesh and fat) ie Bacon and pigs don't have veins , so if a snake bites them, it is absorbed into the fat and flash (we eat that) but it dont kill the pigs, pork the other white meat is super difficult for humans to digest, makes the body create new digestive enzymes just to digest puts a strain on your body, pork tends to require a lot more salt to season due to fat content therefore leads to high blood pressure and cardiovacular disease Répondre

This seems like the perfect parallel to the garden of Eden. God commands that Israel not eat these things because God says "This is not food for you". Just like with Adam and Eve, God said "don't eat from this tree". But Eve said "God says we should not eat form this tree neither should we touch it".

God never said it's forbidden to touch an animal, which is unclean. The declaration of clean and unclean is a status, such that ONLY clean animals can be holy, which is, set apart for God's purposes... and in Leviticus, that purpose was the absorption of sin into the innocent animal's blood (and the absorption of blood into the salt completing the duality).

Death is the most abnormal thing to our God, and animals who God has deemed as unclean are unclean simply because he deemed them that way.

There is no hidden meaning. There is no secret or Magic.

God told Eve, "this fruit is not food for you". Certainly, the fruit was edible. It is simply what God commands. I hope this helps. Répondre

This is similar to the interpretation I drew from the mizvah, that being that eating pork carries a higher risk of serious illness as compared to other animals. This is also true for primates, especially great apes. Consuming the brains of these animals can even lead to prions, similarly to cannibalism (Kuru, Creutzfeldt-Jakob’s disease, Mad-Cow, etc.) Répondre

Genetically and interestingly pigs resemble humans a lit. That is why organs such as pigs intestines can be used in human intestinal transplantation and the human body accepts it as its own. I am not sure if there are other animals that could provide organs to humans like pigs. Also, in cosmetics they try new products on pig skin for safety because it closely resembles that of humans. So, there is a scientific reason behind religions claims, at least, in this case. Répondre

They used to feed them anything, usually called slop. Food left over in the pan used for washing dishes was one. Many probably got fed mash after making moonshine. Which did greatly increase the actual meat production. Répondre

It was a cheap way of having meat! Understand before WWII, it required so many acres to feed a person or family! But science adulterated the seeds creating hybrids and other things, where now an acre feeds so many people or families!
But there’s an old saying that seems true, for anything gained there’s something lost!
Where as the Bible said not to plant mingled seeds in the same field, it’d remove their purity, thus adulterated. Which heirloom seeds are non hybrid and have a lot of qualities from phytosterols and other things that are precursors or a base material from what our bodies use to make chemicals to even imitating some chemicals in our bodies. Diabetes’ didn’t exist, then it became rampant in the U.S., then the world. Who feeds the world? The U.S. Looks at cancer, in the 70’s it was in the news like Covid is today!

Do not the medicines we take have pig in them? As in the heart medications and the glycerine that coats most pills? Antibacterial medicines, I believe, are made from pigs. Shall we not take these medicines? Répondre

Observant Jews avoid medications that contain forbidden substances when/if there are alternatives. When there are not, and the medication is necessary, we are permitted because taking medicine is not the same as eating. Répondre

If we take a magnifying glass on everything in life you would notice a lot that we do that would be considered wrong. Répondre

A Kosher deli wouldn't have ham products, so there wouldn't be any cross contamination. Not all delis or the meats they sell are Kosher even if it's made of beef, chicken, or turkey. It has to meet a certain standard. Répondre

1) A Jew shouldn't be eating in a deli that serves ham (or any non-kosher items), or that lacks reliable kosher supervision.

2) But, yes, it would definitely mean that your food had been "defiled". Any contact with non-kosher food renders kosher food non-kosher. (There are certain exceptions, but this is the general rule.) Répondre

Not the same as other fish. Thry are structurally very different. But Jewish law classifies them as not scales.
